I wanted a barn dance. With music that was light and bright, not heavy or jarring. I looked at Melobo’s website and liked their mix of tunes and instruments. And it was that easy. We set the date and time and on the day they came along and set up and we were off.

Dance after dance. Everyone who could physically, got up and had a go. The caller demonstrated and guided gently and amusingly. And we all still got it wrong and everyone smiled, and laughed and laughed! When we ran out of steam and had a longer break than envisaged, the band played on and it was lovely just to listen to the music.

It was a complete success. Everyone shared their videos over breakfast the next morning and the laughter grew louder and louder. Weeks on and we still share them and smile. Wish we could start every year with Melobo.

Huge thanks to Melobo for performing at our wedding this spring at the Manor House in Moreton-in-Marsh. The ceilidh brought everyone, young and old, to their feet and proved to be the perfect mixer, bringing friends and family together in a frenzy of arms, legs and laughter. The caller was excellent at explaining the steps, and the music was at the perfect pace to keep everyone engaged. We’d love to have them again and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them. Melobo were a great success at my birthday party, with clear and easy communications beforehand. The caller handled our group of friends with ease and helped make sure everyone had a fun time, and came to check when someone fell over! I also really appreciated the care they took to highlight which dances involved partners and provided options to reduce contact given the ongoing pandemic, which was thoughtful and helpful for everyone. The music was fun and well-paced, and the band made sure that the time in between dances was also filled with good music. I’d happily book Melobo again for future parties. Thanks!

Melobo have played at our school barn dance for several years now and we can’t recommend them highly enough. We’re a city school with children and parents from all over the world, and this event is such a lovely way to get everyone together, all having a great time! The ‘steps caller’ is fantastic; she’s full of enthusiasm and clearly explains all the moves. The kids just love the inevitable chaos that goes hand in hand with ceilidhing, the adults enjoy it as much as the kids, and everyone gets to experience top-notch live music. All in all, the Melobo experience is truly a treat, and we just love having this evening every year as part of our school social calendar.

We hired Melobo for our wedding after a recommendation from friends and also hearing them play at a local gig. We were not disappointed! Howard was really understanding and flexible with the organisation and went out of his way to fit in with our tight timescales. On the day the band were brilliant, the caller was enthusiastic and helped us to get even the reluctant ones up on their feet and whirling around! We had all the traditional dances and a few I’ve never come across, at times it was carnage Ceilidh but always great fun! My wife and I asked Melobo to play at our wedding based on a friend’s recommendation and we were not disappointed! Howard was very friendly and quick to reply to emails, a real bonus when you have lots of other things to organize for an event. They were very flexible about timing and fitted in with our planned schedule for the day and didn’t have a problem when we failed to stick to the planned schedule and ran quite late! The music was excellent and bringing their own sound engineer made setup and mixing very smooth. Melobo even provided impromptu backing when my Best Man decided to sing a song at the end of his speech. The caller was fun and friendly, getting down on the dance floor to lead some of the dances which the guests clearly enjoyed. All in a cracking experience, I would definitely hire Melobo again.

You played a blinder! The reaction from the dancers shows how danceable your music is. You’ve got a really good selection of tunes, with interesting arrangements. We had very favourable feedback from the audience, with many hearing you for the first time saying how impressed they were. It is also noticeable that there were a lot of people on the dance floor, even right at the end of the evening. All in all, the atmosphere at the ceilidh was really quite special. I do hope to see you performing at other ceilidh series and festivals in the future, because I think you deserve it.
